[History Book] ✓ Newton's Rainbow: The Revolutionary Discoveries of a Young Scientist PDF by Kathryn Lasky É eBook or Kindle ePUB free

Famed for his supposed encounter with a falling apple that inspired his theory of gravity, Isaac Newton (1642-1727) grew from a quiet and curious boy into one of the most influential scientists of all time. Newton's Rainbow tells the story of young Isaac--always reading, questioning, observing, and inventing--and how he eventually made his way to Cambridge University, where he studied the work of earlier scientists and began building on their accomplishments. This colorful picture book biography celebrates Newton's discoveries that illuminated the mysteries of gravity, motion, and even rainbows, discoveries that gave mankind a new understanding of the natural world, discoveries that changed science forever. Yes, this is a particularly text-heavy picture book. It's perfect for the 4th or 5th grader who has to read a biography and has a tough time plowing through a chapter-book length piece of nonfiction. (That would have been me and many of the students that I've taught over the years.) It's beautifully written and illustrated, gives all sorts of really interesting information, allowing the reader to get a real feel for the brilliant, eccentric person that Isaac Newton was and the times in which he lived. I learned a lot! Kathryn Lasky Newton is mostly portrayed here as a youngster - which, along with the accessible text, may attract middle elementary students to read this and learn about this important scientist.
Long paragraphs may deter some readers, but this could be used as a read aloud.
Full color illustrations mostly support the text, but on the page where it describes him engraving his name on his desk, Newton is shown engraving on the bench.
Side bars for Kepler and Galilei provide short introductions to them, and how Newton used their discoveries to assist his own - good example of how scientists influence each other! Childrens, History, Fiction Many kids know the story of Newton and his apple. This book delves into his childhood and the true (maybe?) story of Newton's apple. There is quite a bit of history and Lasky touches on other scientific figures. This is a very text heavy picture book (or maybe a heavily illustrated narrative nonfiction?). I'd recommend for fourth grade and up. Accessible writing, and the illustrations add to the story.

*I received a free review copy of this book from the publisher through my district library services* English I love Isaac Newton. I think it's horribly unfair that he gets such a bad rap for the type of personality that he had. Maybe some of the reason he didn't always like to share his ideas with others came about because of the ridicule he faced as a child and teenager.

This is a really well done book, lots of information and beautiful illustrations, perfect to introduce your children-or, yourself- to this genius. Kathryn Lasky I have been seeking out children's books about Isaac Newton to share with my kids. I think Newton has the potential to be a great role model for kids as he did his best work while quarantined and unable to attend school because of the Bubonic Plague. This is a nice picture book, with a lot of information that gives a basic overview of Newton's life. Kathryn Lasky

Lasky, Kathryn Newton’s Rainbow: The Revolutionary Discoveries of a Young Scientist, pictures by Kevin Hawkes. PICTURE BOOK. Farrar Straus Giroux (Macmillan), 2017. $18.

Lasky takes a long look at the early life of Isaac Newton, including the forces that formed his life experience and the discoveries and theories he formed that to this day inform our world.

This looks like a picture book, but each page is text dense, so this book occupies a strange middle space between picture book and chapter book â€" not an early reader. This makes it difficult to pinpoint a use. Perhaps as a research help for a biography project. It could even be a good example of long (2700 words is long for a student) biography. It is however, not a simple read that you could use as an opener or class discussion.

http://kissthebook.blogspot.com/2017/... English A superlative biography of Isaac Newton, this book focuses on Newton's childhood. The observations of the natural world he made as a child were the bases for his scientific accomplishments later in life. It was so interesting to read how he saw the world, despite being labelled as not especially smart. The long picture book format (48 pages, divided into short chronological chapters, and with denser text than most picture book biographies) has much detail to ponder, on his life events, idiosyncrasies, and the science he learned and expanded on. Hawkes's mixed media illustrations are detailed and occasionally whimsical, adding depth to the facts. An accessible and well written introduction to this important thinker for budding scientists. Includes a bibliography.

48 This is one of those picture book biographies that fails to successfully identify it's target audience. From the cover, this appears to be a picture book for young readers (first grade or thereabouts) yet it is surprisingly text-heavy and provides a lot of details that young children may be neither intellectually ready for (details on some of Newton's ideas) nor emotionally ready for (some rather graphic info about the bubonic plague!) But it's also not quite a chapter book for older elementary kids, either. It's decently written, providing lots of details about Newton's life, yet somehow he never quite came alive for me as I read it. Perhaps four stars for the quality of the content and the illustrations independently, but three stars overall because of the audience confusion. It does include a Bibliography, which I appreciate. Newton's Rainbow: The Revolutionary Discoveries of a Young Scientist Lively and engaging text about the man credited for discovering gravity, this picture book follows Isaac Newton from his birth in 1642 to his time at Trinity College. Readers may find it interesting to note some of the struggles he faced as well as the support he received from others, including the village apothecary. What may fascinate them the most is the description of some of his experiments, inventions, and ways of thinking. It is clear from the text that he wasn't meant to be a farmer or a working man but was instead intrigued with notions of motion, light, and matter, which led to his discovery that a rainbow contains seven different colors formed as the light passes through raindrops' prisms. The illustrations show the sense of wonder the young boy and the older man must have experienced as he explored the world around him. Interestingly, He never married and preferred to be alone rather than with others and had a fondness for the color red. These sorts of details prompt readers to recognize that there was an interesting human being behind all that original thinking. While the book contained a lot more text than I expected, I still found Newton's story fascinating and learned things about him that I didn't already know. Hardcover This was a very interesting biography for kids on Isaac Newton (1642-1727) I had not much thought of him in a personal familiar way. I knew about him since he had a theory of gravity.

You find out about his homelife, his size, and his cleverness. His curious mind made him who he was as well as being taken in by an educated apothecary, William Clark, when he was 11.

I found it very interesting. I think the author tries really hard to make it interesting for kids to read. It has a lot of text. It would be interesting to read it in sections in class and take notes about specific times in his life each time. It is a lot to take in all in one sitting.

I think it was interesting that when he was isolating during the plague, he made a lot of his largest discoveries. 48
